Adventure with a double stroller

Today we embarked on a shopping adventure with the double stroller, which continues to be a fascination among locals with one child. They have "super markets" which is sort of like Target with walls between the sections. We bought some very attractive (not) plastic furniture and a CD player and some towels and had to load it all onto the stroller (Mike hauled the plastic dresser on his head) and marched home about a mile. Of course the only part of that that surprised the locals was the stroller. On our way back we saw a medical clinic, with sliding doors open to the busy street and people on cots with IVs. Then a little girl came out holding her own IV and dropped her pants to go "tinkle" right in the middle of the "parking lot" (not a lot, jus a row of cars). Talk about crazy! I guess they don't have toilets in the medical clinics. Note to self.

We also ventured to the ocean and saw the long, nice, fairly white beach on Dadonghai. The water is turquoise and warm but unfortunately there is some garbage washing up, like the occasional plastic bag or cigarette butt. We did our best to throw it onto the sand. On the streets if a person drops something by accident he doesn't pick it up because in this country someone
is employed to chase after fallen garbage. I hope its the same on the beach. We found the Surf Hainan shop run by an American named Brendan but he wasn't there, so Mike is now on a hunt to meet him. We also saw another beach last night, Sanya Beach, facing a different direction, and we had dinner at Fat Daddy's run by an Australian guy - it was good and I had a margarita!
Significantly improved my mood after the bus ride there, but actually the bus is air conditioned and has a flat screen and music and upholstered seats, and it cost 30 cents for our family to ride the distance to that restaurant. The taxi home cost $2 ;-) .
